It began with the view.

We first came up the drive on a September evening, with the valley already turning gold. The farmhouse needed a great deal of work. The view needed none.

Over several years we restored the house slowly, with local builders and local stone, keeping what was good — the walls, the beams, the arches — and opening it up to the light. The name followed: lume, the old Italian word for light.

Villa Lume has never been a hotel. It's a home that we share — with families and friends, with teams who need to think together, and with teachers who bring their own communities. What they have in common is a wish for space, privacy and a little perspective.
